And neither is RAW an acronym: it’s just the word raw capitalized.

It's clearer? If they had written, "using special controls in Apple’s raw decoder.", that'd be quite confusing. It sounds like an adjective. Raw decoder _of what?_ But because they wrote "Apple's RAW decoder", not much context is needed to figure out that it's about the image format.
Why do people continue to insist on shouting “RAW” in all caps, after all these years? It’s not an acronym, and never was.
