iOS 16.1.1 and iPadOS 16.1.1

Juli Clover:

iOS 16.1.1 fixes a few unspecified bugs that iPhone users have been dealing with, according to Apple’s release notes. Users have been afflicted with widespread Wi-Fi bug, for example. The Wi-Fi bug resulted in random disconnects, with some users unable to stay connected to their Wi-Fi networks.

It is not clear if the Wi-Fi bug is fixed as Apple did not provide a specific list of bug fixes, instead only saying that the update “includes bug fixes and security updates.”

Unfortunately no fix for the local backup trust prompt bug that was introduced in 16.1. Very, very annoying, and no apparent workaround but using iCloud for backups (conveniently, for Apple).

Well, as far as I can tell, 16.1.1 has not fixed the WiFi problem for my 10.5” iPad Pro, anyway. Sigh. Guess I’ll have to hope 16.2 will do so.

@Sebby: What makes you think it's a bug? I haven't upgraded to iOS 16 yet, but my phone's been doing this ever since I updated to 15.7.1. I assume it's just another instance of Apple sacrificing usability and convenience for "security".

@Doodpants: it does indeed appear to be a misfeature introduced in 15.7.1/16.1 (confirmed inter alia by iMazing) and your assessment is about right.

On the other hand, there was once a time when one could genuinely believe Apple wouldn't be quite this obtuse, and they'd recognise this behaviour was obviously wrong. I'll double check with Apple Support, but it does appear to be intentional, so if you value being able to back up your device without paying a price in either inconvenience or iCloud storage fees, please FB to Apple and express your displeasure.
