Castro Sold Yet Again

Dustin Bluck:

I’ve decided to sell the app to Maple Media. Maple Media is a mobile media and technology company that owns and runs category-leading entertainment, productivity and podcasting apps, including Player FM.

This was a weird one. He at least used to have an Android podcast app (iirc? Am I making this up?) and at one point I thought his goal was to merge the two or at least make them interact. Backend performance had improved and the “ads” had, at worst, gotten more annoying, so development was happening.

Also worried what Maple Media has in store. They don’t look like they necessarily have a Bending Spoons business model or anything, but it sure ain’t Padraig and Oisin.

Overcast’s performance and rough edges had me leave for Apple Podcasts, but that’s got the worst UI flow I’ve seen. (Can I please always have skip fwd and back button visible when playing?) Castro is slowly going from my “podcasts I want to skip half the time” to my main player.

It’s almost enough to try video coding some React Native…

@Ruffin - before you resort to vibe coding, you might want to check out Airshow. I've been using it for a couple of years and I'm very pleased with it - I find it much less confusing than Overcast. Airshow is written by the same indie developer as Feedbin, and if you happen to be paying for Feedbin (which I have for years and years), Airshow syncing is included at no extra charge.

If Castro becomes untenable, are there any other podcasts that follow the “Inbox to Queue” model?

Time to disable auto update on iOS to keep the current app. Also probably to vibe code an app later on. It's the only app with the inbox system.
