Closing Microsoft Retail Stores
Microsoft (via MacRumors, Hacker News):
The company’s retail team members will continue to serve customers from Microsoft corporate facilities and remotely providing sales, training, and support. Microsoft will continue to invest in its digital storefronts on Microsoft.com, and stores in Xbox and Windows, reaching more than 1.2 billion people every month in 190 markets. The company will also reimagine spaces that serve all customers, including operating Microsoft Experience Centers in London, NYC, Sydney, and Redmond campus locations. The closing of Microsoft Store physical locations will result in a pre-tax charge of approximately $450M, or $0.05 per share, to be recorded in the current quarter ending June 30, 2020.
I will miss the stores as an easy way to try out Microsoft’s new hardware products. Perhaps Apple can lease some of those spaces, to help deal with overcrowding and increase Genius Bar capacity. Many of the locations are within eyesight of the Apple store in the same mall.

This kinda sucks. I'm not a big Microsoft user but I did like to stroll into the Microsoft store now and again and see what's up. I think Microsoft has been a lot more interesting since they got into consumer hardware.
I went to a Microsoft store once, they were very unhelpful for service, ended up having to contact Microsoft directly. Won't miss it. Honestly, as long as some retail space stays open, there will always be Windows computers and Xbox consoles for sale.
