Walmart to Support Apple Pay

Thank god. I was shopping at Walmart the other day and the terminal wouldn't read my chip card -- no idea why, it continues to work fine everywhere else. So I had to stand there for an extra minute and do this whole dance of inserting my card until it failed 3 times, because only then would the terminal accept a magnetic swipe. If I could have tapped it I would have been done in 2 seconds.

It's not that they haven't ever accepted Apple Pay -- they've always blocked tap to pay from a physical credit card too. Why? There's literally no difference between inserting my card, swiping my card, or tapping my card besides convenience and an extra failsafe if one of those methods doesn't work.

Make it make sense.

@Ben same explanation as everything else in America. They blocked the standard and everyone wanted because they don’t care about their customers at all. For years they were trying to force them into using Walmart Pay so they could gather more analytics and push their app and compete with Amazon and literally every reason EXCEPT that customers wanted it.

No one ever wanted it, it was always inferior.

But sales have started to slip. And the other major companies doing the same thing have started to relent. So Walmart is now forced to do this because they finally feel monetary pressure to do so.

Like everything else that makes no sense, the answer is that it makes one or a very few people a whole lot of money, so we all get to suffer for it.

I have to grudgingly admit that up until I read the Birchtree post on this thought it was Apple Pay specifically that had been blocked and now accepted, not Tap to Pay in general.
