Google Voice Drops SMS Forwarding

Google (via Hacker News):

In light of spam causing potential issues with SMS forwarding, text message forwarding to linked numbers will stop on or after August 1.

If you’re using a Google Voice number for 2FA, presumably you can still get the text messages in the app or on the Web.

Weird, I've never gotten spam SMS on my GV number that I can recall. I get spam marketing calls once or twice a week, but not spam SMS.

Never had any spam in mine either. Betting it’s just cheaper. I was disappointed at first, but really a big deal at all if you keep notifications on and have a smartphone. I mean, I do wonder if the app has any privacy issues, but that’s about all the practical downside I see.
