More Easily Finding and Deleting iOS Apps

Two great suggestions from John Gruber:

I wish you could delete apps right from the App Store Updates tab. When I see an update is pending for an app I never use, I just want to delete it right there.

The worst part is, what I actually do is Update All, wasting time and data updating an app I’d rather delete, because it’s easier.

And:

Also, it would be great to be able to delete apps from Spotlight search results (or even just reveal them).

Update (2018-11-16): Dan Masters shows how this works on Android.

I use LaunchBar to search for apps when I see updates and I want to delete them. When I select an app in LaunchBar, I press Command-Return to reveal it in the Finder, then I send it to the trash.

You run LaunchBar on iOS? :-)

cmd-R

@matador: cmd-R on iOS? :D

Yeah. Uninstalling apps on Android is dead simple in comparison. Great job by Dan Masters to illustrate the simplicity.

Any idea why it's so difficult on iOS? My only theory would be the original decision for Springboard to only support built in apps (and saved web pages too?). Then even after the app store launched, Apple was very slow to roll out sophisticated management for apps. Spotlight showed up in iOS 3 and I think folders took until iOS 4.
