iTunes Rentals Increase From 24 to 48 Hours
Apple (via Jon Maddox):
You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it. After you start watching the movie, you have 48 hours to finish it. You can watch the movie as often as you like until it expires.
This makes a lot of sense, as we often have trouble watching a movie in one sitting.

FWIW, I rent exclusively through Amazon, and many/most of the titles I rent have rental windows of 48 hours, 72 hours, or even a 7 day rental window. This is not new.
OTOH, most of the titles I rent are not "Just released" American blockbuster movies, so perhaps things are different in that particular category.

No doubt. I certainly have seen 24 hour rental windows. Just noting that most of the titles I rent have longer windows, and also noting my interests may make my rental habits unrepresentative.
(I do love those 72 hour and 1 week windows, though. Makes it easy to rent something I'm wavering over.)
Well, I was just motivated to quickly check Amazon's film rental section, and of the top 20 films it presented to me, 17 of the 20 had rental windows longer than 24 hours, including several recently released US blockbusters...
And SD renting rates seem to have increased too.
