Lenovo’s New ThinkPad P1
Peter Bright (via Michael Love):
The ThinkPad P1 looks like a 15-inch Ultrabook, 0.7 inches thick and under 4lbs, but inside, it has a mobile Xeon processor, up to 64GB of ECC RAM, and as much as 4TB SSD storage. A discrete GPU, up to the Nvidia Quadro P2000, drives that display (either 1920×1080 300 nit, 72 percent of NTSC, or 3840×2160 400 nit 10-bit-per-channel supporting 100 percent of the Adobe color gamut and touch). It has a good selection of ports—two Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C, two USB 3.1 generation 1 Type A, HDMI 2.0, mini-gigabit Ethernet (with a little dongle), 3.5mm headset, and microSD, and it has 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.
And they also have one with a 17-inch display and 128 GB of RAM. No price or shipping date yet, though.
Previously: MacBook Pro 2018, Dell Precision 5520.

I'm 99% certain that in all of the photos [in the article's carousel] of the 'professional' stock photo models using their thinkpads, the thinkpads have been badly photoshopped in. Seems like a very odd thing to do. Anyway, looks like a nice laptop but sure it's for me. I don't really miss my old MBP 17 at all, but I do miss my MacBook Air so I'm looking for something MBA sized, but with HiDPI screen, 16GM RAM and ideally a GPU, though I can live without the GPU.
It's not that Apple perpetually makes bad kit, not in the slightest, however, if Apple doesn't have what you need…then you are simply out of luck. There's no choice when consumers single source their purchases. It's why I always comparison shop, even when I'm pretty sure I know my preferences might lead me to the usual suspects.
E.g. I really like my Rokus, but I always take a gander at Fire TV devices, WebOS TVs, Samsung Tizen, etc. Never hearts to shop around. It would be a disservice to myself, family, clients, etc. not to be properly informed about these options.
As such, I like the look of the P1, design and specs, but even if it's not for me (probably way more expensive and high specced than anything I'll need), I love it's yet another potential cross shop for clients. I don't want to be beholden to just Dell or just Apple. I want a plethora of choices in the market. This is great. A healthy marketplace is fantastic for everyone.
Just realized Michael Love of your sourced link is "The Michael Love", guy has been making mobile apps for ages!!!! I always respect his opinion.
