Midnight HomePod mini
Apple today announced that the existing HomePod mini is now available in a Midnight color option, which replaces the nearly-identical Space Gray color previously offered.

Apple first released the HomePod mini in November 2020, and it has yet to release a second-generation model of the speaker.
Caveat emptor:
- Apple still advertises this as allowing “iTunes music purchases” as an audio source, though in practice many purchases are not available.
- With a slow processor and not much RAM, it’s unlikely to get the next round of Siri and Apple Intelligence improvements.

Makes me wonder if Apple produced a bunch of space gray HomePod Minis all at once, when the product debuted, and has been waiting for them to sell out before switching to midnight.

I really have to object to Midnight being described as “nearly identical” to Space Gray. Maybe I’m more sensitive to the color difference than others, but it looks totally different to me. It’s the reason I haven’t bought a new Apple Watch for the last few generations when Midnight replaced Space Gray for the watch body and black for the strap.
Homepod Mini is one of the most disappointing Apple products I've ever bought. The audio quality is atrocious. If it wasn't serving as my Homekit Hub I'd get rid of it.
