@hanonno Thanks, but I would want something automatic. If I were going to manually create versions, I can already do that with Git.

@mhenders Time Machine is like an L3 cache. Really good for getting recently used data. Pretty much useless for getting older stuff.

@rosyna Aha, I'd forgotten that tmutil does have a restore command. That's probably the best way.

@mcelhearn Actually, I’m not seeing any weird metadata. Is used to really mess things up if you restored manually. Did they fix that?

Made a spreadsheet mistake. Unfortunately, Excel doesn’t support Versions, and Time Machine restore on Mac OS X 10.11 just crashes my Finder
