@danielpunkass Not documented, but one of the nice things about using NSURL (contra NSString) is that it’ll raise if you pass in nil.
@flyosity Yes, I think trials would fix much of these problems.
@shinypb So they designed it to “work” this way?
@nriley I see. Weren’t there some PowerBooks that used to be able to open to that angle, almost flat?
@nriley You put the screen flat on the table where you can’t really see it?
@chuanp I guess I’ll naturally get to try that once my phone finishes updating to 7.0.2. Thanks.
@DanFrakes OTOH, if I wanted to type a lot, the 11-inch MacBook Air’s screen shows a lot more, and typing and pointing are more ergonomic.
@DanFrakes Yeah, since I can’t really do work on it, I have no need for a keyboard.
I’m liking Downcast so far, but since using a third-party podcast player the lock screen and Control Center lose track of what’s playing.
@DanFrakes I guess the stumbling block for me is that neither my coding nor tech support is really possible on an iPad.
@kevinhoctor Because of RAM? My stats indicate that less than 7% of customers on 10.6 can’t run 64-bit.
@kevinhoctor Yes, but 10.7 only requires a Core 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM. Seems like that wouldn’t exclude very many.
@kevinwalzer The current OS version always has the majority of my customers, plus OS bugs to work around and new APIs to take advantage of.
@kevinwalzer Do you really have a choice?
@kevinhoctor Will be interesting to see what happens to the 10.6 numbers when 10.9 ships. So far they are still almost as high as 10.7.
I wonder why the Downcast Mac app wants to access the “iCab” information in my keychain.
@kevinhoctor No. Within the past few months, all my apps now require 10.5 or 10.6. But lots of people run old versions on old OS versions.
@uliwitness SpamSieve has both a higher percentage of users on 10.4 and 10.9 than in between, compared with my other products.
I now have more customers on Mavericks than Tiger.
@NathanGaber Looks like it’s worth a try; thanks. I guess it uses iCloud for sync? It would be nice to have a Fever for podcasts…
I wonder if anyone has used Hazel to organize Git tags.
@jablair @leebennett Amazon only offers gift cards for trade-ins, but the price was $30 higher for my 4S, and the process is smooth.
@mhenders I would use that multiple times per day.
@leebennett Amazon seemed to offer much better prices for me than Gazelle.
Keep iPhone 4S, and if it breaks owe $199 for repairs. Or trade it in for >$199, get a 5c/5s for free, and if anything breaks: Apple Care.
@FogBugz Great. Not on the new version yet but wanted to forestall the update if there wasn’t a pref to opt out. Didn’t see it in blog post.
@FogBugz I like performance updates, but is there a way to opt out of the new version until there’s feature parity?
@tonyarnold I had to Google it, too, but apparently The Register didn’t just make it up. I’m guessing it’s more UK slang.
@Filosync I got the e-mail but didn’t see a corresponding Web page or blog post to link to.
@cparnot Do you think you’ll use it? I like it, but it doesn’t solve a problem that I currently have.
Somehow a document that I created in 2013 is too old to be edited in the Pages Web app. It says to save it in Pages ’09.
@cparnot Glad to hear that it’s now shipping: mjtsai.com/blog/2013/07/0…
winyang Two young women stranded on Longs Peak, need assistance: helpconnieandsuz.tumblr.com #boulder #colorado any news agencies that can help?
@PBones I’ve been using AudioServicesPlayAlertSound; does that use the proper output device? Also, does your code use the alert volume?
spamsieve SpamSieve 2.9.8 adds support for Mac OS X 10.8.5 and improves filtering accuracy: c-command.com/blog/2013/09/1…
Just had two kernel panics in HFS+ code. I don’t think Time Machine likes it when I replace a folder with a symlink.
@VTPG Seems like they could have done that for 32-bit iOS.
I don’t think I will ever remember that PayPal’s default search doesn’t look in the Transaction ID field.
@mrmachinetool That was my thought as well. You have to pick a level that you start trusting: OS, compiler, processor, etc.
@simX As I recall, the screensaver keeps running (animating).
@mcelhearn But it looks like you have to click all the checkboxes every time you print. It wouldn’t save that in the Preset or Last Used.
@mcelhearn Aha. I knew about Attributes, but Note wasn’t showing. It does show if you pick the List style.
@mcelhearn None of the print styles include the contact’s notes, for example.
@mhenders Yeah. You can’t even select all the text at once. So I dragged the card into EagleFiler and printed it from there.
It appears that the only way to print all the information from a card in Contacts is to take a screenshot (hope window can be large enough).
@siegel @stevenf Yep. Or offering the new app as an update, or redirecting links when the old app is removed, etc., etc.
@siegel @stevenf Makes sense. But if having you make a separate app is the plan, there’s so much the store could do to make that smoother.
@mhenders Thanks. I’ll check it out. Love the subject matter but haven’t really enjoyed other books in that genre (e.g. Krakauer).
@mhenders Yep, I highly recommend it.
@michaelolson10 I was able to get it to work. Thanks.
So I had also used myOpenID for postbox.zendesk.com and waffle.wootest.net, neither of which seem to use OpenID anymore.
@michaelolson10 Thanks. I looked for such a page but didn’t see a link to it. Now myopenid.com seems to be down; I’ll check later.
Fortunately, StackExchange lets you add multiple login methods to the same account.
Jut got an e-mail saying myOpenID is shutting down. Wonder how to find out which sites I used it for. Probably just StackExchange.
@cparnot Good point, although if you have repeated strings the interning is really nice.
@fetchguy Yeah, the digital experience for subscribers isn’t very good. I’m actually scanning the articles I want to save. :-(
Is there a 1x+2x screenshot app like RetinaCapture, but that works with multiple displays? mjtsai.com/blog/2012/09/1…
@optshiftk The titlebar menu works in other apps, but seemingly not in QuickTime Player.
@optshiftk With a different movie, I get a “Screen Recording.mov” alias, but my window was “Untitled”. Why doesn’t it work like TextEdit?
@optshiftk I tried dragging a few times and it snapped back.
Feels so strange to me that after making a new recording in QuickTime Player, to find the file I have to close the window (&hope it asks).
@redpola I’ll check it out. Thanks. Currently, I’m using vigil-app.com.
@redpola Thanks for the heads-up. Should be back up now.
