Yes, you read that correctly: iOS 27.2, not iOS 27.1.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Apple previously announced that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2026\/09\/09\/iphone-duo-ios-27-1\/\">iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1<\/a>, which means that software version will contain all sorts of references to the device hidden within the code. If an iOS 27.1 beta were to have been released today, it could have spoiled some smaller iPhone Duo details that did not make it into Apple&rsquo;s event.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2026\/09\/16\/272-betas\">John Gruber<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2026\/09\/16\/272-betas\">\n<p>So, putting beta releases aside, we&rsquo;ll see the versions hit the public in numeric order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All OS 27.0 releases: two days ago.<\/li>\n<li>iOS 27.1: October 23, exclusively on the iPhone Duo.<\/li>\n<li>All OS 27.2.0 releases: probably in late October, after the 23rd, but with the Duo remaining on its own 27.1 branch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Duo convergence will wait for 27.3, but I think it&rsquo;ll be a 27.2.x update.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/2010\/06\/marble_mystery_solved\">Something similar happened back in 2010<\/a> with the original iPad, which launched in April 2010 running what was then still called iPhone OS, version 3.2.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@stroughtonsmith\/117282041468789392\">Steve Troughton-Smith<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@stroughtonsmith\/117282041468789392\">\n<p>iPhone Duo being completely disconnected from the iOS update cycle is very likely why its software features didn&rsquo;t leak &mdash; wouldn&rsquo;t surprise me if iOS 27.1 is unique to that device, and the rest of the lineup skips it (or gets some security updates, iOS 27.1 in name only)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/xcode-release-notes\/xcode-27_2-release-notes\">Xcode 27.2 Beta Release Notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/xcode-release-notes\/xcode-27_2-release-notes\">\n<p>The iOS SDK and simulator support for iPhone Duo will be available later this month in an upcoming release of Xcode 27.1.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2026\/09\/16\/xcode-27-iphone-duo\">John Gruber<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2026\/09\/16\/xcode-27-iphone-duo\">\n<p>Developers wanted this SDK a week ago. And when day one preorder buyers start using their Duos on October 23, they&rsquo;re going to wish Apple had shipped this SDK last week too.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/layer8.space\/@teilweise\/117285202572886248\">Der Teilweise<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/layer8.space\/@teilweise\/117285202572886248\">\n<p>What annoys me about Apple releasing Xcode 27.2 Beta 1 before they release Xcode 27.1 Beta 1 is that there was absolutely no need to release 27.2 Beta 1. They could just have postponed it. Nobody asked for 27.2 Beta 1. What version are we supposed to use?
