{"id":52507,"date":"2026-07-02T15:44:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T19:44:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=52507"},"modified":"2026-07-06T11:37:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:37:16","slug":"everymac-at-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2026\/07\/02\/everymac-at-30\/","title":{"rendered":"EveryMac at 30"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/whatsnew\/\">EveryMac<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/whatsnew\/\">\n<p>On July 2, 1996, EveryMac.com launched.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty years is a long time -- and a great deal has changed since then -- but what has not changed is that EveryMac.com has been there to provide you with detailed info on every Mac from the <a href=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/systems\/apple\/mac_classic\/specs\/mac_128k.html\">original 128k<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/systems\/by_shipping\/index-currently-shipping-macs.html\">current line<\/a>. Thank you very much for your support through the years.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I think there used to be a bunch of sites like this, but EveryMac has endured, and it&rsquo;s the one I&rsquo;ve been using for long time. I asked proprietor Brock Kyle how he got started:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As you know, the Internet was different in the 90s. I was at least partially inspired by Guy Kawasaki&rsquo;s evangelism and wanted to support what was at that time considered a decidedly &ldquo;beleaguered&rdquo; Apple Computer. Mac hardware was a topic that I was interested in and relatively experienced with -- or at least I thought so, I have learned a little bit more since then &#x1F643; -- and the site was simply my effort to contribute to the body of knowledge. I miss the ethos of those days.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/512pixels.net\/2026\/07\/everymac-turns-30\/\">Stephen Hackett<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/512pixels.net\/2026\/07\/everymac-turns-30\/\">\n<p>There are a bunch of ways to support EveryMac, and its anniversary prompted me to <a href=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/supporter\/\">chip in to help keep the lights on<\/a> at a very important resource.<\/p>\n<p>I am a huge fan of the site&rsquo;s comparison charts, which make it easy to see how a particular model <a href=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/ultimate-mac-comparison-chart\/?compare=all-powerpc-macs&amp;highlight=0&amp;prod1=PowerMacG4001&amp;prod2=PowerMacG4016&amp;prod3=PowerMacG4023\">evolved over time<\/a>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixcolors.com\/link\/2026\/07\/everymac-turns-30\/\">Jason Snell<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/sixcolors.com\/link\/2026\/07\/everymac-turns-30\/\">\n<p>Back in 1995 I worked on a project for MacUser magazine called the Mac Catalog, which was a FileMaker-based spec database much like EveryMac&rsquo;s. Steve Jobs wasn&rsquo;t even back at Apple yet. What a great run it&rsquo;s been and continues to be for EveryMac.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mactracker.ca\/\">Mactracker<\/a>, which is an app rather than a Web site, recently celebrated its <a href=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@mactracker\/116573349198954406\">25 anniversary<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/mactracker.ca\/\">\n<p>Mactracker provides detailed information on every Apple Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro ever made, including items such as processor speed, memory, graphic cards, supported OS versions, price, color, storage, and expansion options. Also included is information on early Apple systems, Newton, Apple TV, Apple accessories, audio, displays, modems, printers, scanners, storage, Wi-Fi products, Mac pro apps, and operating systems.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p id=\"everymac-at-30-update-2026-07-06\">Update (<a href=\"#everymac-at-30-update-2026-07-06\">2026-07-06<\/a>): <a href=\"https:\/\/tidbits.com\/2026\/07\/03\/everymac-hits-the-30-year-mark\/\">Adam Engst<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/tidbits.com\/2026\/07\/03\/everymac-hits-the-30-year-mark\/\">\nI first wrote about it in &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/tidbits.com\/2011\/09\/20\/everymacs-ultimate-mac-sort-tool\/\">EveryMac&rsquo;s Ultimate Mac Sort Tool<\/a>&rdquo; (20 September 2011), we noted its 20th anniversary in &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/tidbits.com\/2016\/07\/08\/macnn-and-tekserve-close-everymac-and-mactracker-carry-on\/\">MacNN and Tekserve Close, EveryMac and Mactracker Carry On<\/a>&rdquo; (8 July 2016), and it has <a href=\"https:\/\/tidbits.com\/?s=Everymac&amp;sort=oldest\">popped up in TidBITS<\/a> periodically since. Although I also use <a href=\"https:\/\/mactracker.ca\/\">MacTracker<\/a> and Glenn Fleishman&rsquo;s new <a href=\"https:\/\/fruitspecs.com\/\">Fruit Specs<\/a> site, nothing compares to EveryMac&rsquo;s depth and breadth, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/everymac.com\/ultimate-mac-comparison-chart\/?compare=all-macs\">Ultimate Mac Comparison<\/a> can be particularly helpful for identifying differences between Macs.\n<\/blockquote>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EveryMac: On July 2, 1996, EveryMac.com launched.
