{"id":5187,"date":"2012-06-27T13:58:17","date_gmt":"2012-06-27T18:58:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=5187"},"modified":"2012-06-27T13:58:19","modified_gmt":"2012-06-27T18:58:19","slug":"applescript-appscript-scripting-bridge-and-automator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/27\/applescript-appscript-scripting-bridge-and-automator\/","title":{"rendered":"AppleScript, appscript, Scripting Bridge, and Automator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&rsquo;s way too much to summarize here, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leancrew.com\/all-this\/2012\/06\/the-first-nail-in-the-coffin-of-python-appscript\/\">Dr. Drang<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.libertypages.com\/clarktech\/?p=3726\">Clark Goble<\/a> have posted on these topics with insightful comments by Hamish Sanderson, Matt Neuberg, and Andrew Barnert.<\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;m not quite as <a href=\"http:\/\/cocoadev.com\/wiki\/ScriptingBridgeCriticisms\">negative<\/a> on Scripting Bridge as others, but that may only be because I haven&rsquo;t used it as heavily. It works OK for my purposes, but it certainly seems unfinished, and I&rsquo;m not satisfied with either the exception- or delegate-based error handling.<\/p>\n<p>For a while, it seemed that AppleScript, with good framework and bridge support, could become really great for both users and developers. Instead, it&rsquo;s kind of been in stasis. We have Automator and AppleScriptObjC, which didn&rsquo;t really live up to their potential.
