Additional commitments from Apple will deliver a step change in how developers can request interoperable access to the iOS and iPadOS mobile operating systems, giving greater certainty over how they can deliver innovative new products. It says that views are welcome by 17:00 GMT on March 3, 2026, although it rather buries how you submit those views <a href=\"https:\/\/competitionandmarkets.blog.gov.uk\/2026\/02\/10\/improving-the-way-apple-and-google-deliver-app-store-services-and-enhancing-ios-interoperability-in-the-uk\/\">in a blog<\/a> and accompanying set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/calls-for-evidence\/proposed-commitments-from-apple-and-google-app-certainty-and-interoperable-access\">supporting documentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the views submitted, the CMA says that its proposed commitments will take effect from April 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the UK&rsquo;s CMA <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/25\/03\/12\/uk-says-apple-stifles-browser-innovation-but-chickens-out-of-imposing-regulation\">has claimed<\/a> that Apple stifles competition between browsers on the <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/iphone\" title=\"iPhone\">iPhone<\/a>. However, it has so far chosen not to create regulations to force any changes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2026\/02\/10\/apple-google-fairer-app-store-practices-uk\/\">Tim Hardwick<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2026\/02\/10\/apple-google-fairer-app-store-practices-uk\/\">\n<p>The CMA says it will closely monitor implementation and won&rsquo;t hesitate to impose formal requirements if the companies fail to follow through.
