The companies expect to commit $100 billion to Stargate initially and pour up to $500 billion into the venture over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>They promise it will create &ldquo;hundreds of thousands&rdquo; of jobs and &ldquo;secure American leadership in AI.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft is also involved in Stargate as a tech partner. The project actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/microsoft-and-openai-plot-100-billion-stargate-ai-supercomputer?rc=lsmcir&amp;ref=spyglass.org\">started<\/a> as a joint venture between OpenAI and Microsoft before the latter <a href=\"https:\/\/spyglass.org\/openai-microsoft-softbank\/\">figured out how to offload the cost<\/a> to others &#x2013;  largely SoftBank and Oracle. And the Oracle aspect, the data center in Abilene, Texas, was already being built well before the announcement. At first, <a href=\"https:\/\/spyglass.org\/from-space-balls-to-stargate\/\">humorously<\/a>, for Elon Musk and xAI. But then when he bailed on the project, <a href=\"https:\/\/spyglass.org\/follow-the-nvidia-chips\/\">OpenAI took over the capacity<\/a>. Again, well ahead of the announcement at the White House. And even SoftBank&rsquo;s big money announcement as a part of that deal wasn&rsquo;t exactly new.
