But seven months later, this feature has yet to see the light of day.<\/p><p>Called Media Manager, the tool would &ldquo;identify copyrighted text, images, audio, and video,&rdquo; OpenAI said at the time, to reflect creators&rsquo; preferences &ldquo;across multiple sources.&rdquo; It was intended to stave off some of the company&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/07\/22\/commercial-image-generating-ai-raises-all-sorts-of-thorny-legal-issues\/\">fiercest<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/12\/27\/the-new-york-times-wants-openai-and-microsoft-to-pay-for-training-data\/\">critics<\/a>, and potentially shield OpenAI from <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/10\/06\/some-gen-ai-vendors-say-theyll-defend-customers-from-ip-lawsuits-others-not-so-much\/\">IP-related legal challenges<\/a>.<\/p><p>But people familiar tell TechCrunch that the tool was rarely viewed as an important launch internally. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think it was a priority,&rdquo; one former OpenAI employee said. &ldquo;To be honest, I don&rsquo;t remember anyone working on it.&rdquo;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This was promised by 2025.
