If you don&rsquo;t have one, you&rsquo;ll be asked to create one before you can start setting it up.<\/p>\n<p>A frequently used trick to circumvent this block is a small but ingenious step. By entering a random e-mail address and password, which doesn&rsquo;t exist and causes the link to fail, you end up directly with the creation of a local account and can thus avoid creating an official account with Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>This common method no longer seems to work, as Microsoft has apparently patched this bug. However, when we checked the page using <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240612104753\/https:\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/change-from-a-local-account-to-a-microsoft-account-395203bf-9f1b-eb24-b042-5b8dae6c1d20\">the Wayback Machine<\/a>, the instructions on how to do the latter appeared on June 12, 2024, then <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240617103839\/https:\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/change-from-a-local-account-to-a-microsoft-account-395203bf-9f1b-eb24-b042-5b8dae6c1d20\">disappeared<\/a> on June 17, 2024. The &lsquo;Change from a Microsoft account to a local account&rsquo; instructions yet haven&rsquo;t returned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/06\/microsoft-removes-documentation-for-switching-to-a-local-account-in-windows-11\/\">Andrew Cunningham<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=40786644\">Hacker News<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/06\/microsoft-removes-documentation-for-switching-to-a-local-account-in-windows-11\/\">\n<p>Using Windows with a traditional local account is still extremely possible, but it does require a small amount of know-how beyond just clicking the right buttons.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Despite the documentation change, <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/02\/what-i-do-to-clean-up-a-clean-install-of-windows-11-23h2-and-edge\/\">most of the workarounds<\/a> for creating a local account still work in both Windows 11 23H2 (the publicly available version of Windows 11 for most PCs) and 24H2 (<a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/06\/windows-11-24h2-is-released-to-the-public-but-only-on-copilot-pcs-for-now\/\">available now on Copilot+ PCs<\/a>, later this fall for everyone else).
