In a multi-platform environment, it&rsquo;s almost always the best formatting option for external drives.<\/p><p>[&#8230;]<\/p><p>Shortly after the introduction of macOS Sonoma, complaints <a href=\"https:\/\/discussions.apple.com\/thread\/255188289?sortBy=best\">started to surface<\/a> on Apple&rsquo;s Community Support forum. The complaints featured <a href=\"https:\/\/discussions.apple.com\/thread\/255401203?sortBy=best\">irate users<\/a> discovering that their external disks were not reliably being mounted in macOS at all.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It seems like the last few releases of macOS have trouble with mounting external drives in general, even APFS ones.
