That includes things like filtering by genre in purchased tab, and the inclusion of box sets in the store listings.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2023\/12\/06\/itunes-movies-tvos-17\">John Gruber<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2023\/12\/06\/itunes-movies-tvos-17\">\n<p>It&rsquo;s a good simplification overall: Apple&rsquo;s own content&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;both iTunes purchases and TV+ streaming content&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;is in the TV app.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But now you <em>really<\/em> can&rsquo;t avoid the streaming content.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/joe-steel.com\/2023-10-30-Apps-Are-Now-Flops-Tabs-Are-Now-Sidebars.html\">Joe Rosensteel<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/joe-steel.com\/2023-10-30-Apps-Are-Now-Flops-Tabs-Are-Now-Sidebars.html\">\n<p>The issues that I have suggested Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/sixcolors.com\/member\/2023\/08\/57-app-icons-and-nothing-good-on\/\">should resolve<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Unify media and apps into one interface, with the ability to pin favorite apps.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce the amount of Apple TV+ promotion in the interface, particularly for non-subscribers.<\/li>\n<li>Properly personalized recommendations based on viewing habits.<\/li>\n<li>Handle live TV through a unified programming guide, like Amazon does, instead of pretending the only live TV is live sports.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The new interface miraculously resolves <em>none<\/em> of these things.<\/p>\n<p>Upon upgrading to 17.2, and opening the TV app for the first time, you&rsquo;re still treated to the same behavior I&rsquo;ve bemoaned in the past where the TV defaults to showing the Apple TV+ view asking me to &ldquo;Come back for new Apple Originals&rdquo; with Jason Sudekis&rsquo; mustachioed face right next to it. There&rsquo;s no more Ted Lasso, fellas. Let it go.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There&rsquo;s also a new sidebar with <strong>Apple TV+<\/strong> and <strong>MLS Season Pass<\/strong> elements that can&rsquo;t be hidden. He was right but Apple has chosen to put all of their video into one app. This is user hostile. If you dislike soccer, sports, TV+ and just want to watch a TV show you own from iTunes, you have only one place to go. I want the choice to &ldquo;uninstall&rdquo; AppleTV MLS but I can&rsquo;t do that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iosdev.space\/@sanguish\/111535019314598508\">Scott Anguish<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/iosdev.space\/@sanguish\/111535019314598508\">\n<p>Really disappointed that the iTunes movie store app is going to be going away in 17.2 tvOS.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s far and away a better movie purchasing (wishlist) and viewing (able to see descriptions and previews for a movie). It&rsquo;s much faster than the library in the TV app.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p id=\"tv-app-in-tvos-17-2-update-2024-04-24\">Update (2024-04-24): <a href=\"https:\/\/sixcolors.com\/post\/2024\/04\/does-everything-need-to-be-an-ad\/\">Joe Rosensteel<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/sixcolors.com\/post\/2024\/04\/does-everything-need-to-be-an-ad\/\">\n<p>If you launch the app after an OS update, and you&rsquo;re not a current subscriber, you get whisked to the Apple TV+ tab where you will get autoplaying video, and spiel about all the great Apple TV+ content you&rsquo;re missing out on. This happens <em>every<\/em> time there&rsquo;s a point update.<\/p>\n<p>If you go to the Home section of the TV app, you&rsquo;ll get the same carousel sales pitch for Apple TV+ shows that you&rsquo;d get if you were in the Apple TV+ section. It&rsquo;s not left to stand on its own. Apple doesn&rsquo;t trust you to pay enough attention to them.<\/p>\n<p>TV+ isn&rsquo;t playing hard to get, or trying to lure me back with mystery. It all just turns into interface noise, frustrating what I want to do. This screen real estate belongs to Apple, not to me.<\/p>\n<p>Just like all these other companies shoving promotions in, Apple doesn&rsquo;t think it&rsquo;s a villain. It thinks it&rsquo;s increasing awareness and fostering discovery! (Never mind that if you are an Apple TV+ subscriber, you&rsquo;ll see shows in the carousel that you&rsquo;ve already watched.)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p id=\"tv-app-in-tvos-17-2-update-2024-05-07\">Update (2024-05-07): <a href=\"https:\/\/iosdev.space\/@sanguish\/112381645258038979\">Scott Anguish<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/iosdev.space\/@sanguish\/112381645258038979\">\n<p>The TV+ app on AppleTV has so many missing features.<\/p>\n<ul><li>you are no longer shown how many movies you have<\/li>\n<li>no way to select a movie and be taken to the description like on the old movies app. Want to know more about a movie than the title and thumbnail? Google it.  The view still exists, but you need to go to an in progress movie from outside the app to see it.<\/li>\n<li>I only want to see movies in the store. Not tv shows, not shows on other apps. Just movies.<\/li>\n<li>You can&rsquo;t tell if a movie has iTunes extras without trying to play it.
