Rather, the email continues: &ldquo;We sincerely thank you for your continued support.&rdquo;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/sony-pulls-discovery-videos-playstation-users-already-own-sparking-concern-over-our-digital-future\">Wesley Yin-Poole<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/sony-pulls-discovery-videos-playstation-users-already-own-sparking-concern-over-our-digital-future\"><p>The decision has sparked a backlash online, and fuelled concern around ownership of digital media. Video game preservation is a hot topic within the industry, but the issue of content removal from digital platforms is top of mind of movie and TV makers, too. Last month, Oscar-winning filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/guillermo-del-toro-backs-christopher-nolan-calls-owning-physical-media-a-responsibility\">Guillermo del Toro backed Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan in championing physical media<\/a> amid controversial moves by streamers that have seen some films pulled from availability.<\/p><p>[&#8230;]<\/p><p>There is currently no way to back up purchased PlayStation Store video content from a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. They cannot be transferred to a disc by any means.<\/p><p>[&#8230;]<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s worth noting that when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/sony-to-discontinue-playstation-store-movie-and-tv-purchases-and-rentals\">Sony stopped selling TV shows and movies from the PlayStation Store<\/a> in 2021, it said users would still be able to access existing purchases.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Kind of like how Apple <em>says<\/em> that HomePod can play iTunes music purchases, but due to bugs and\/or content licensing arrangements this <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2023\/03\/31\/homepod-late-adopter\/\">doesn&rsquo;t actually work<\/a> for many older purchases.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/sony-ps4-ps5-discovery-mythbusters-tv-1851066164\">Ethan Gach<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/sony-ps4-ps5-discovery-mythbusters-tv-1851066164\"><p>This isn&rsquo;t the first time Sony has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/7\/8\/23199861\/playstation-store-film-tv-show-removed-austria-germany-studiocanal\">done something like this<\/a> and it won&rsquo;t be the last. I&rsquo;d say just buy your favorite shows on Bluray instead, but <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/xbox-series-x-all-digital-disc-drive-leak-game-pass-1850857060\">Sony and Microsoft<\/a> also appear to be planning to slowly phase out optical disc drives in the future.
