The handle had previously belonged to <a href=\"https:\/\/orangephotography.com\/aboutus\/team\/gene-hwang\/\">Gene X Hwang<\/a> of the corporate photography and videography studio <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/orangephoto?lang=en\">Orange Photography<\/a>. In a letter, the company formerly known as Twitter thanked Hwang for his loyalty and offered him a selection of X merchandise and a tour of X&rsquo;s HQ, as a &ldquo;reflection of our appreciation.&rdquo;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2023\/07\/31\/twitter-turns-to-x-apple-app-store\/\">Tim Hardwick<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2023\/07\/31\/twitter-turns-to-x-apple-app-store\/\"><p>X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/app\/twitter\/id333903271\">updated its official app<\/a> on Apple&rsquo;s App Store to conform with the new branding that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2023\/07\/24\/twitter-rebranded-as-x\/\">announced last weekend<\/a> by billionaire owner Elon Musk.<\/p><p>Instead of &ldquo;Let&rsquo;s talk&rdquo; &#x2013; Twitter&rsquo;s original tagline &#x2013; &ldquo;Blaze your glory!&rdquo; is the curious subtitle on X&rsquo;s iOS App Store listing, which describes the app as &ldquo;the trusted digital town square for everyone.&rdquo;<\/p><p>The new logo and name are meant to reflect Musk&rsquo;s longstanding intention to transform the social media network into an &ldquo;everything app&rdquo; similar to China&rsquo;s WeChat.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@davemark\/110808867803466048\">Dave Mark<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@davemark\/110808867803466048\">\n<p>Apple blinked.<\/p>\n<p>X breaks App Store rule, becomes the very first single character listing.<\/p>\n<p>Wonder when the Twitter URLs will switch over to X dot com. &#x1F914;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@chockenberry\/110810242829253644\">Craig Hockenberry<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@chockenberry\/110810242829253644\">\n<p>&ldquo;We treat all developers the same.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>I'm fine with that not being true, and there are good reasons for it not being true, but I wish Apple would stop saying it.<\/p>\n<p>Falls into the Google-not-being-evil category.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DamienPetrilli\/status\/1646779411956477952\">Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/esthercrawford.medium.com\/an-epilogue-to-my-time-working-at-twitter-24a126098246\">Esther Crawford<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/esthercrawford\/status\/1684291048682684416\">tweet<\/a>, via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/7\/26\/23809035\/twitter-blue-x-esther-crawford-video-tweet-elon-musk\">Jay Peters<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/esthercrawford.medium.com\/an-epilogue-to-my-time-working-at-twitter-24a126098246\">\n<p>[Elon Musk&rsquo;s] focus on speed is incredible and he&rsquo;s obviously not afraid of blowing things up, but now the real measure will be how it get reconstructed and if enough people want the new everything app he is building.<\/p>\n<p>I learned a ton from watching Elon up close &mdash; the good, the bad and the ugly. His boldness, passion and storytelling is inspiring, but his lack of process and empathy is painful.<\/p>\n<p>Elon has an exceptional talent for tackling hard physics-based problems but products that facilitate human connection and communication require a different type of social-emotional intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Social networks are hard to kill but they&rsquo;re not immune from death spirals. It doesn&rsquo;t have the name, doesn&rsquo;t say &ldquo;formerly Twitter&rdquo;, and isn&rsquo;t even blue. It&rsquo;s just the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@joannastern\/post\/CwAxVOGL8Cz\/\">ugly X icon<\/a> and the insipid slogan &ldquo;Blaze your glory!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So it&rsquo;s no surprise that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@eric_seufert\/post\/CwAiop2OM8U\/\">downloads are dropping<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p id=\"twitter-is-now-x-update-2025-10-28\">Update (<a href=\"#twitter-is-now-x-update-2025-10-28\">2025-10-28<\/a>): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/807011\/twitter-com-x-com-login-security-key-passkey-domain\">Stevie Bonifield<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/807011\/twitter-com-x-com-login-security-key-passkey-domain\">\n<p>X is preparing to put Twitter.com out to pasture, and the official @Safety account posted on Friday warning anyone using physical security keys or passkeys for 2FA that they will need to re-enroll them. According to X, if the login methods aren&rsquo;t updated by November 10th, the associated accounts <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Safety\/status\/1981764503298777326\">will be locked<\/a> until the update process is completed, and abandoned accounts could <a href=\"\/news\/802474\/x-is-launching-a-marketplace-for-inactive-handles\">possibly be sold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@rosyna\/115445664096386070\">Rosyna Keller<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@rosyna\/115445664096386070\">\n<p>It sounds like Musk is trying to sunset\/EOL the Twitter.com domain, but all cookies are stored under that domain as well as all existing passkeys and security keys.
