{"id":39431,"date":"2023-05-18T16:03:54","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T20:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=39431"},"modified":"2024-11-26T10:23:44","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T15:23:44","slug":"photomator-for-mac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2023\/05\/18\/photomator-for-mac\/","title":{"rendered":"Photomator for Mac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2023\/05\/16\/photomator-mac-released\/\">Tim Hardwick<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2023\/05\/16\/photomator-mac-released\/\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pixelmator.com\/photomator\/\">Photomator 3.0<\/a> today got its official release on macOS, bringing Pixelmator&rsquo;s iPhone and iPad photo-editing app to MacBooks and Mac desktops for the first time.<\/p><p>With an interface that will be familiar to users of Photomator on iOS and iPadOS, the Mac app includes a fully fledged photo browser with native Photos app integration, allowing users to organize, duplicate, share, and favorite images, as well as sync edits between Photomator and the  Photos  Library.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I guess this is the new name for Pixelmator Photo. It&rsquo;s $29.99\/year or $99.99 lifetime, up from $23.99 and $54.99 when it was iOS-only.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s really cool how multiple apps can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benricemccarthy.com\/having-lots-of-photos-is-a-f-king-nightmare\/\">plug into<\/a> the system photo library, but it has <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2023\/04\/12\/photos-spotlight-and-icloud\/\">practical<\/a> as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/cloud-storage-fixed-maximum\/\">hard<\/a> limits, and it&rsquo;s just not what I want to use to <a href=\"https:\/\/masto.adamchandler.me\/@AdamChandler\/110376003168571181\">consolidate<\/a>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/masto.adamchandler.me\/@AdamChandler\/110376008269274310\">all<\/a> of my photos and <a href=\"https:\/\/masto.adamchandler.me\/@AdamChandler\/110375999018570999\">videos<\/a> or use for long-term storage.<\/p>\n\n<p>Previously:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2023\/05\/09\/pogues-photos-unification\/\">Pogue&rsquo;s Photos Unification<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2023\/04\/12\/photos-spotlight-and-icloud\/\">Photos, Spotlight, and iCloud<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/23\/pixelmator-photo-switching-to-subscriptions\/\">Pixelmator Photo Switching to Subscriptions<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p id=\"photomator-for-mac-update-2023-05-24\">Update (2023-05-24): <a href=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/photomator-mac\/\">Nick Heer<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/photomator-mac\/\">\n<p>But, as these are merely suggestions, it makes for an effectively no-lose situation: if the automatic repair or cropping works perfectly, it means less work; if neither are effective, you have wasted only a few seconds before proceeding manually.<\/p>\n<p>The Photos integration is fantastic. If you have ever used a mixed Lightroom and iCloud Photos environment, the simplified workflow is a dream come true. Photomator is also a damn good RAW photo editor. While Photos has some editing tools built in, they are cumbersome for experienced users &mdash; there are three modes for white balance editing in Photos, but you cannot select Temperature\/Tint as the default, for example. Photomator feels like it has been designed by people who edit photos <em>for<\/em> people who edit photos.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p id=\"photomator-for-mac-update-2024-11-26\">Update (2024-11-26): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/reviews\/photomator-3-1-review-a-machine-learning-augmented-photo-editor-for-mac-iphone-and-ipad\/1\">Jeff Carlson<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/jeffcarlson.com\/2023\/09\/14\/photomator-3-1-review-at-dpreview\/\">post<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/reviews\/photomator-3-1-review-a-machine-learning-augmented-photo-editor-for-mac-iphone-and-ipad\/1\">\n<p>In spirit and practice, Photomator, from the Pixelmator Team, is both a worthy successor to Apple Aperture and an inexpensive editing alternative to Adobe Lightroom on the Mac (there is no Windows version).
