While the release notes for the update say nothing about new features or major changes, there&rsquo;s a significant one coming for users in China.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/11\/10\/23450967\/apple-airdrop-limited-china-goverment-protests\">Jess Weatherbed<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/11\/10\/23450967\/apple-airdrop-limited-china-goverment-protests\">\n<p>Apple has placed time restrictions on AirDrop wireless file-sharing across iPhones in China after the feature was used by protesters to share images opposing the Chinese government, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-11-10\/apple-limits-iphone-file-sharing-tool-used-for-protests-in-china?sref=ExbtjcSG\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The &ldquo;Everyone&rdquo; option in Airdrop is now limited to a ten-minute window for users in China. After the ten minutes have passed, AirDrop&rsquo;s device-to-device sharing will switch back to &ldquo;Contacts Only,&rdquo; making it harder to distribute content to strangers en masse. These new time restrictions have been introduced by Apple just weeks after the service was used to spread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/wxn7nq\/anti-xi-jinping-posters-are-spreading-in-china-via-airdrop\">posters opposing president Xi Jinping<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/airdrop-timeout-china\/\">Nick Heer<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/airdrop-timeout-china\/\">\n<p>A weird quirk of this change is that, absent the above context, adding a timeout to the &ldquo;Everyone&rdquo; setting for AirDrop is actually a good idea. Some people have reported receiving unwanted AirDrops in public, a story which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/06\/18\/how-to-turn-off-airdrop-so-strangers-cant-send-you-messages.html\"><em>CNBC<\/em> illustrated<\/a> with a stock photo of a &ldquo;senior man surprised at tablet&rdquo;.
