And at least two top Amazon executives reviewed the strategy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/themarkup.org\/amazons-advantage\/2021\/10\/14\/amazon-puts-its-own-brands-first-above-better-rated-products\">Adrianne Jeffries and Leon Yin<\/a> (via <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=28863450\">Hacker News<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/themarkup.org\/amazons-advantage\/2021\/10\/14\/amazon-puts-its-own-brands-first-above-better-rated-products\"><p>An investigation by The Markup found that Amazon places products from its house brands and products exclusive to the site ahead of those from competitors&mdash;even competitors with higher customer ratings and more sales, judging from the volume of reviews.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/amazon-copied-products\/\">Nick Heer<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/amazon-copied-products\/\"><p>Earlier this year, <em>Mother Jones<\/em> cited several journalists who, in the words of one, claimed that Amazon is &ldquo;the only company [they have] dealt with that has directly lied to me&rdquo;. Several reporters used that word, &ldquo;lie&rdquo;, or said the company was deceitful in its responses to journalists &mdash; that it goes far beyond a typical carefully worded corporate message.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/10\/18\/lawmakers-accuse-amazon-executives-of-misleading-or-lying-to-congress-about-its-business-practices\/\">Manish Singh<\/a> (via <a href=\"https:\/\/slashdot.org\/story\/21\/10\/18\/1630255\/amazon-may-have-lied-to-congress-about-its-business-practices-lawmakers-say\">Slashdot<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/10\/18\/lawmakers-accuse-amazon-executives-of-misleading-or-lying-to-congress-about-its-business-practices\/\">\n<p>Five members of the House Judiciary Committee have <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/letter_-_amazon_misrepresentations_-_10.18.21.pdf\">accused<\/a> (PDF) Amazon&rsquo;s top executives of either misleading or blatantly lying to it about its business practices and said they are considering an investigation following publication of two damning reports last week.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2021\/10\/19\/bezos-jassy-mess\">John Gruber<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2021\/10\/19\/bezos-jassy-mess\">\n<p>There&rsquo;s a good argument for Amazon on this front that store brands are as old as retail. That <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/house-kits-drugs-and-drills-all-the-ways-sears-was-amazon-before-amazon-2018-10-10\">Sears did the same thing a century ago<\/a>, and that Walmart does it now. And that of course retailers with house brands&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;including Amazon&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;look at sales data to choose what to make. But that&rsquo;s not what Amazon&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2020\/07\/29\/bezos-testimony-data-antitrust\/\">and Jeff Bezos in particular<\/a>&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;have said under oath.
