This division was originally intended to ensure that updating Safari itself in Catalina didn&rsquo;t require long and complex installation. Two reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I wanted to know whether Apple had fixed things or whether this update would also destroy the Command Line Tools installation.<\/li>\n<li>If it was the latter, I wanted to do the update while I still remembered how to repair the damage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&rsquo;s not fixed.<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/leancrew.com\/all-this\/2021\/03\/now-i-am-become-macos-update\/\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leancrew.com\/all-this\/2011\/07\/python-problems-on-lion-mostly-self-inflicted\/\">Many years ago<\/a>, OS updates would sometimes overwrite the Python <code>site-packages<\/code> directory in the <code>\/Library\/Python<\/code> tree. This was pretty bad behavior, as the whole point of the <code>site-packages<\/code> directory is to hold modules that the user installed.
