{"id":30906,"date":"2020-12-02T16:59:40","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T21:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=30906"},"modified":"2020-12-02T16:59:40","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T21:59:40","slug":"sketchs-big-sur-app-icon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/02\/sketchs-big-sur-app-icon\/","title":{"rendered":"Sketch&rsquo;s Big Sur App Icon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sketch.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/02\/how-we-redesigned-the-sketch-icon-for-big-sur\/\">Sketch<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.sketch.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/02\/how-we-redesigned-the-sketch-icon-for-big-sur\/\">\n<p>&ldquo;We experimented with moving away from the diamond, but that seemed a little silly considering that it&rsquo;s such a strong part of our brand,&rdquo; he explains. &ldquo;So we created a bunch of new diamond shapes &mdash; some with perspective, some without; some with more faces, some with less.&rdquo; From there, it became of question of which ones worked best, and how to integrate these elements with different backdrops.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Getting the balance right between the foreground shapes and the background was particularly tough. &ldquo;Something we found out very quickly was that there was often a visual struggle between the rounded rectangle backdrop and the diamond,&rdquo; he says.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>The rounded rectangle background is actually a simplified representation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sketch.com\/blog\/2020\/11\/18\/yes-sur-behind-the-scenes-of-sketchs-macos-makeover\/\">Sketch&rsquo;s Big Sur user interface<\/a>, and the Sidebar on the left has transparency, which means it ever-so-slightly takes on the background color of your wallpaper.&rdquo; The diamond itself got some love too &mdash; Prekesh redrew and re-colored it from scratch to improve the contrast and make it slightly more vibrant.
