Yes, of course you want apps compiled to run natively, but most users running most apps&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;including some professional apps&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;won&rsquo;t notice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>This is true, although I&rsquo;ve also encountered some Rosetta-specific bugs in macOS.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/2020\/12\/m1_macs_truth_and_truthiness\"><p>The adage is, &ldquo;If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.&rdquo; Emphasis on <em>probably<\/em>&#x2009;&mdash;&#x2009;the M1 Macs are an exception. They really are that good. But, like the iPhone in 2007, there are people who refuse to believe it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/steipete.com\/posts\/apple-silicon-m1-a-developer-perspective\/\">Peter Steinberger<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/steipete.com\/posts\/apple-silicon-m1-a-developer-perspective\/\"><p>The new M1 MacBooks are fast, beautiful, and silent, and the hype is absolutely justified. However, the future can be boring when you are seeking attention now.<\/p><p>[&#8230;]<\/p><p>Since publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/om.co\/2020\/11\/17\/m1-based-macbook-pro-13-inch-review\/\">my original review<\/a>, I have installed the beta version of the M1-optimized Adobe Lightroom CC and Adobe Photoshop. Their performance on the M1 MacBook Pro has left me slack-jawed. I am not saying the beta software is without its faults. Still, I increasingly find myself sitting on the couch comfortably editing photos on the new laptop, even though I have a more expensive, tricked-out MacBook 16 within an arm&rsquo;s reach.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mondaynote.com\/apple-silicon-m1-disruption-af11f639103a\">Jean-Louis Gass&eacute;e<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=25327493\">Hacker News<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/mondaynote.com\/apple-silicon-m1-disruption-af11f639103a\"><p>The generally positive first reviews of M1-based Macs has generated animated discussions. Judging by users&rsquo; reactions, Apple&rsquo;s new M1 processor truly is a BFD (Big Fantastic Disruption), but, as expected, certain critics have questioned the success.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robservatory.com\/my-impressions-of-the-m1-macbook-pro\/\">Rob Griffiths<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/robservatory.com\/my-impressions-of-the-m1-macbook-pro\/\"><p>Basically, I chose the MacBook Pro because it has a Touch Bar&mdash;despite the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/robservatory.com\/the-fundamental-problem-with-the-touch-bar\/\">I hate the Touch Bar<\/a>. But some of our apps make use of the Touch Bar, so I need it to support our users and test our apps.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>For now, I view iOS support as a nice way to run some simple apps&mdash;probably games&mdash;on your Mac that you enjoy using on your iPad. Beyond that, it really feels like Apple&rsquo;s, well, mixing apples and oranges with iOS support on ARM Macs.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;ve had my M1 MacBook Pro for a few weeks now, and I can confidently say this is the best-performing Mac laptop I&rsquo;ve ever owned&mdash;and not just because of its benchmark scores. It&rsquo;s that the entire system has been designed to take advantage of Apple&rsquo;s homebuilt powerful but low-power CPU.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/drbarnard\/status\/1339325826303729671\">David Barnard<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/drbarnard\/status\/1339325826303729671\">\n<p>Anyone else on an M1 Mac and\/or Big Sur having issues with the screensaver turning on every ~20 minutes and locking the computer? Disabling the screensaver completely in Settings didn&rsquo;t fix it.
