These synthetic firmlinks are how the OS enables folks to create directories and symbolic links on the read-only boot volume.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Whomever designed this <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/spaces-vs-tabs-a-20-year-debate-and-now-this-what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-go\/\">came down on the &ldquo;tabs&rdquo; side of the &ldquo;tabs vs. spaces&rdquo; debate<\/a>. When creating the separation between<strong> installers<\/strong> and <strong>Users\/Shared\/installers&nbsp;<\/strong>in the <strong>\/etc\/synthetic.conf<\/strong> file, <a href=\"https:\/\/superuser.com\/questions\/1467982\/how-to-create-a-firm-link-in-latest-apfs#comment2249452_1476507\">you need to use tabs<\/a>.
