These past few years feel particularly bad though, so here&rsquo;s my quick take on the current state of the Mac lineup.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Maybe things will turn around later this year, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stroughtonsmith\/status\/1105119617381486592\">Mac Pro<\/a> and rumored new pro notebooks, but right now we&rsquo;re in quite a dark period for the Mac&mdash;both hardware and <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2019\/03\/11\/the-sad-state-of-logging-bugs-for-apple\/\">software<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gZUSFda_W7k\">Lewis Hilsenteger<\/a> (via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DamienPetrilli\/status\/1105169592698265603\">Damien Petrilli<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gZUSFda_W7k\">\n<p>After many years using MacBook variants I&rsquo;ve made the switch to Windows. I&rsquo;ve used every version of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air that have been released. My current laptop of choice is the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon \/ Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme. Yet I know people who&rsquo;ve happily switched over. I worry that if Marzipan leads to another decline in quality there will be more switchers.<\/p>\n<p>The Mac&rsquo;s main competitor is still Windows. That&rsquo;s what&rsquo;s so frustrating about the pro app conversation around Marzipan. Unless the big packages port over from Windows, nothing is going to change. And those guys aren&rsquo;t upset about AppKit, they&rsquo;re upset over Metal and Nvidia.<\/p>\n<p>Most pro app vendors already have their own UI libraries (which is already frustrating if you care about the Mac experience.) AppKit vs UIKit isn&rsquo;t really going to move the needle much for these app vendors in porting over from Windows.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Uupis\/status\/1105217986187661312\">Uupis<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Uupis\/status\/1105217986187661312\">\n<p>The next MBP refresh feels personally pivotal to me, be it this year or later; even aside from the state of macOS. I&rsquo;m not buying another first-generation design after the experience with 2016 model. And I won&rsquo;t be able to convince myself to buy another MBP with a TouchBar.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nfugitt\/status\/1105230873199288321\">Nick Fugitt<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nfugitt\/status\/1105230873199288321\">\n<p>I&rsquo;ve said this repeatedly but Apple has spent 2015-2019 (half the decade) executing and then recovering from horrible decision-making around 2012-14.
