In late 2012, Apple CEO Tim Cook touted that the computer would be &ldquo;Made in the USA,&rdquo; but sales were supposedly postponed by months in part because Apple could not secure enough custom screws for the computer from U.S.-based suppliers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jcenters\/status\/1089921186170130437\">Josh Centers<\/a> has highlighted some interesting quotes.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gak_pdx\/status\/1089959867580706816\">Greg Koenig<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gak_pdx\/status\/1089959867580706816\">\n<p>The real indictment here is about Apple&rsquo;s sourcing failing them, not US manufacturing. There are well over 100 shops in the US who could knock those screws out easily.\nAnd please, I hear the nightmare stories of China sourcing&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tapbot_paul\/status\/1089963754937335808\">Paul Haddad<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tapbot_paul\/status\/1089963754937335808\">\n<p>Why is no one asking why Apple needs custom screws for a desktop machine?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/colincornaby\/status\/1089968995023777792\">Colin Cornaby<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/colincornaby\/status\/1089968995023777792\">\n<p>While I&rsquo;m sure Apple is a little more over the top than others, PC workstation vendors still use a lot of custom bits including screws.
