{"id":22894,"date":"2018-09-26T14:51:02","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T18:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=22894"},"modified":"2018-10-25T15:26:56","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T19:26:56","slug":"screen-time-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/26\/screen-time-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Screen Time Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ObjColumnist\/status\/1043422729184194560\">Spencer MacDonald<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ObjColumnist\/status\/1043422729184194560\">\n<p>So Screen Time is showing me stats for an app I don&rsquo;t even own?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2018\/09\/26\/screen-time-bypass-iphone-ipad\/\">Ben Lovejoy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2018\/09\/26\/screen-time-bypass-iphone-ipad\/\"><p>Of particular interest to parents was the ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2018\/06\/21\/ios-12-how-to-set-up-screen-time-as-a-parent-on-a-childs-iphone-or-ipad\/\">impose restrictions on their children<\/a> &#x2013; but it hasn&rsquo;t taken long for kids to figure out how to bypass the limits &#8230;<\/p><p>The first, and most obvious one, was for kids to change the time of the device to an earlier one &#x2013; before the downtime kicks in.<\/p><p>But a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/apple\/comments\/9i8194\/my_kid_managed_to_pass_screen_time_limit\/\"><em>Reddit<\/em><\/a> thread spotted by <a href=\"http:\/\/uk.businessinsider.com\/kids-finding-ways-around-apple-screen-time-controls-2018-9\"><em>Business Insider<\/em><\/a> reveals that this isn&rsquo;t the only hack kids are employing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p id=\"screen-time-issues-update-2018-09-27\">Update (2018-09-27): <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/daniel_a_a\/status\/1045215722505424896\">Daniel Alm<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/daniel_a_a\/status\/1045215722505424896\">\n<p>Apple recognizes which domains you have been browsing and shows apps associated with that domain instead of the actual domain in Screen Time, including apps you don&rsquo;t even own.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PDucks32\/status\/1045216354859540480\">Patrick Metcalfe<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PDucks32\/status\/1045216354859540480\">\n<p>Filed a radar and was told this is intended. Even for @github who&rsquo;s URL is being used by someone ELSE&rsquo;s app! My screen time has timings for &ldquo;http:\/\/news.ycombinator.com&rdquo; and more. Want to see something creepy?
