{"id":21626,"date":"2018-06-02T17:06:09","date_gmt":"2018-06-02T21:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=21626"},"modified":"2018-06-02T17:06:09","modified_gmt":"2018-06-02T21:06:09","slug":"imac-pro-vesa-mounting-screws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2018\/06\/02\/imac-pro-vesa-mounting-screws\/","title":{"rendered":"iMac Pro VESA Mounting Screws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2018\/05\/28\/snazzy-labs-imac-pro-vesa-adapter-broke\/\">Joe Rossignol<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MacRumors\/status\/1001112276194095106\">tweet<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2018\/05\/28\/snazzy-labs-imac-pro-vesa-adapter-broke\/\"><p>Quinn Nelson, host of the popular YouTube channel <a href=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCO2x-p9gg9TLKneXlibGR7w\">Snazzy Labs<\/a>, has shared a new video that appears to suggest the <a href=\"\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/12\/14\/imac-pro-vesa-mount-adapter-kit\/\">iMac Pro&rsquo;s user-installable VESA mounting kit<\/a> uses cheap screws that are prone to break when unfastened.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Unable to remove the adapter, Nelson said he contacted Apple by phone, explained the situation, and was told that Apple could not provide support because the adapter is manufactured by a licensed OEM, despite being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/shop\/product\/MR3C2ZM\/A\/vesa-mount-adapter-kit-for-imac-pro-space-gray\">sold by Apple<\/a> with Apple-branded packaging and documentation.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the Genius Bar was not very helpful, as apparently only the Head Genius at that store was trained to service the iMac Pro.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>All in all, there are two separate issues here: the fragile screws and the un-pro-like customer service that was provided by Apple. And, unlike his fellow YouTube creator Linus Sebastian, Nelson did not <a href=\"\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2018\/04\/18\/linus-tech-tips-imac-pro-repair-video\/\">disassemble the iMac Pro<\/a> or perform any other action that would appear to violate Apple&rsquo;s warranty.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SnazzyQ\/status\/1000414791901630464\">Quinn Nelson<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SnazzyQ\/status\/1000414791901630464\">\n<p>Apple store offered to a) replace the outer shell in another repair or b) do a CRU (complete replacement unit). I obviously elected the latter.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, I am getting taken care of, but a few have seen the video already. Don&rsquo;t know what they would have done for an average Joe.<\/p>\n<p>As stated, I&rsquo;m not mad at my store. I&rsquo;m mad at Cupertino for a) continuing to sell an absolute trash VESA mount, and, b) not training the Geniuses to work on iMac Pro.
