Well, what about if a similar location tracking application had <em>no<\/em> security &mdash; at all?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p id=\"us-cell-carriers-are-selling-access-to-real-time-phone-location-data-update-2019-01-11\">Update (2019-01-11): <a href=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/telcos-say-they-wont-sell-location-data\/\">Nick Heer<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/telcos-say-they-wont-sell-location-data\/\">\n<p>Two days after <a href=\"https:\/\/pxlnv.com\/linklog\/obtaining-smartphone-location-trivial\/\">Joseph Cox reported<\/a> that the real-time location of virtually every phone in the United States could be bought with few restrictions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2019\/01\/10\/phone-companies-are-selling-your-location-data-now-some-lawmakers-want-federal-investigation\/\">Hamza Shaban and Brian Fung<\/a> are reporting for the <em>Washington Post<\/em> that three providers have said that they would stop selling customers&rsquo; location data to third parties[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2019\/01\/09\/motherboard-carriers-selling-location\">John Gruber<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2019\/01\/09\/motherboard-carriers-selling-location\">\n<p>The carriers&rsquo; defense is basically that they only intended to sell this data to the &ldquo;right&rdquo; people, and the fact that these middlemen are reselling it to the &ldquo;wrong&rdquo; people is against their &ldquo;terms&rdquo;.
