For me, it&rsquo;s about products and people. Did we make the best product, and did we enrich people&rsquo;s lives?<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>In each case, if you look at when we started, I would guess that we started much before other people did, but we took our time to get it right. Because we don&rsquo;t believe in using our customers as a laboratory. What we have that I think is unique is patience. We have patience to wait until something is great before we ship it. [&#8230;] But ultimately the question is, Is the product great? Is it ready? And if it&rsquo;s not, we delay.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Actions speak louder than words. Cook&rsquo;s Apple is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rjonesy\/status\/955842390069309441\">known<\/a> for shipping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2018\/02\/20\/airplay-2-removed-from-ios-tvos-11-3\/\">incomplete<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bob_burrough\/status\/967103573967319042\">products<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2018\/01\/24\/messages-on-icloud-in-ios-11-3-beta\/\">late<\/a>. Was the <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/18\/unreliable-macbook-pro-keyboards\/\">disastrous MacBook keyboard<\/a> really <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marcoarment\/status\/966395352080437249\">ready<\/a> nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2015\/04\/09\/the-12-inch-macbook\/\">three years ago<\/a>? What about the <a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/thetalkshow\/2018\/02\/18\/ep-215\">first-generation Apple Watch<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/40525409\/why-apple-is-the-worlds-most-innovative-company\">\n<p>A financial person just looking at revenues and profits may think, They&rsquo;re good [at making money]. But that&rsquo;s not who we are. We&rsquo;re a group of people who are trying to change the world for the better, that&rsquo;s who we are. For us, technology is a background thing. We don&rsquo;t want people to have to focus on bits and bytes and feeds and speeds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why then does iCloud include such a <a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2018\/01\/25\/stern-icloud-storage\">pitiful<\/a> amount of storage?<\/p>\n\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/40525409\/why-apple-is-the-worlds-most-innovative-company\">\n<p>Music is a service that we think our users want us to provide. It&rsquo;s a service that we worry about the humanity being drained out of. We worry about it becoming a bits-and-bytes kind of world, instead of the art and craft.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The introduction of Apple Music made the <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/03\/shuffle-in-ios-9-2s-music-app\/\">music<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/12\/apple-music-itunes-12-2-and-icloud-music-library\/\">experience<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2015\/12\/12\/apple-pushes-iphone-6s-pop-up-ads-to-app-store\/\">worse<\/a> for anyone who doesn&rsquo;t pay a monthly fee.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/40525409\/why-apple-is-the-worlds-most-innovative-company\">\n<p>You&rsquo;re right, we&rsquo;re not in it for the money. I think it&rsquo;s important for artists.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Compare the way Cook talks about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OhMDee\/status\/966467107046146050\">music<\/a> vs. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/eli_schiff\/status\/966790703547342854\">software<\/a> and artists vs. <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/09\/that-30-app-store-tax\/\">developers<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tim Cook (via John Gruber, MacRumors): Stock price is a result, not an achievement by itself.
