Yeah, really. They also say that they&rsquo;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/katienotopoulos\/iphone-bug-letter-i\">going to fix this<\/a> in an update soon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2017\/11\/07\/ios-11-i\">John Gruber<\/a>:<\/p><blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/daringfireball.net\/linked\/2017\/11\/07\/ios-11-i\"><p>What I&rsquo;ve heard is that this is a machine learning problem &mdash; that, more or less, for some reason the machine learning algorithm for autocorrect was learning something it never should have learned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Update (2017-11-07): <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.emojipedia.org\/why-ios-is-spreading-question-mark-boxes\/\">Jeremy Burge<\/a> (via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rosyna\/status\/928053577443979264\">Rosyna Keller<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/blog.emojipedia.org\/why-ios-is-spreading-question-mark-boxes\/\"><p>What&rsquo;s really going on is that the letter &ldquo;I&rdquo; is being appended with an invisible character known as <a href=\"https:\/\/emojipedia.org\/variation-selector-16\/\">Variation Selector 16<\/a> when auto-correct kicks in to replace the lowercase &ldquo;i&rdquo;.<\/p><p>This VS-16 character is <em>intended<\/em> to be used to make the previous character have emoji appearance.
