{"id":1880,"date":"2009-03-02T14:37:30","date_gmt":"2009-03-02T18:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/?p=1880"},"modified":"2009-03-16T10:12:26","modified_gmt":"2009-03-16T14:12:26","slug":"newertech-voyager-q","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/02\/newertech-voyager-q\/","title":{"rendered":"NewerTech Voyager Q"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In September I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atpm.com\/14.09\/hard-drives-as-floppies.shtml\">reviewed Thermaltake&rsquo;s BlacX and WiebeTech&rsquo;s RTX100 enclosures<\/a>, all of which let you use bare SATA hard drives like floppy disks. <a href=\"http:\/\/hivelogic.com\/articles\/2009\/03\/newertech-voyager-q-review\">Dan Benjamin<\/a> has now reviewed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newertech.com\/products\/voyagerq.php\">NewerTech&rsquo;s Voyager Q<\/a>. It&rsquo;s like the BlacX, but it&rsquo;s nicer-looking, it has a quad-interface, it&rsquo;s $99 rather than $43, and it doesn&rsquo;t require pressing the power button before the ejecting the drive. I have not yet had a chance to do comparative benchmarking, but the Voyager certainly feels faster.<\/p>\n<p>Update (2009-03-09): <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/fraserspeirs\/status\/1301920567\">Fraser Speirs<\/a> reports that he&rsquo;s unable to use two Voyagers at the same time via FireWire because they have the same GUID: 0x30E002E0454647. My Voyager also has this GUID, so this would seem to be a bug in the Voyager hardware.<\/p>\n<p>Update (2009-03-16): There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/home2.owc.net\/~tech\/firmware\/Voyager%20Change%20ID\/Uploader_3_02_0000_0005.exe\">firmware update<\/a> (requires Windows) that can be used to change the Voyager&rsquo;s GUID.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In September I reviewed Thermaltake&rsquo;s BlacX and WiebeTech&rsquo;s RTX100 enclosures, all of which let you use bare SATA hard drives like floppy disks.
