Here are some interesting things I&rsquo;ve found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There&rsquo;s a detailed <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/apple\/swift\/blob\/master\/CHANGELOG.md\">change log<\/a> that goes back to 2013.<\/li>\n<li>There&rsquo;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/apple\/swift\/blob\/master\/docs\/ErrorHandlingRationale.rst\">paper<\/a> about the design of Swift 2&rsquo;s error handling. It seems to have been written before they decided to automatically remove <code>AndReturnError<\/code> from the Objective-C method name.<\/li>\n<li>They are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/rust\/comments\/3vadg8\/swift_is_open_source\/cxnu2kk\">thinking<\/a> about Rust and avoiding the costs of reference counting.<\/li>\n<li>They are working on allocating objects <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Catfish_Man\/status\/673963556467924992\">on the stack<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/clattner_llvm\/status\/674454905449373696\">now<\/a> download the iBook <a href=\"https:\/\/swift.org\/documentation\/\">as an ePub<\/a> without using the iBooks app.<\/li>\n<li>They are open to the idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.swift.org\/t\/empower-string-type-with-regular-expression\/335\/4\">built-in regex support<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Despite the early <a href=\"http:\/\/mjtsai.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/30\/swift-no-macros-no-compromises\/\">bluster<\/a> about not needing macros, a real hygienic macro system has <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.swift.org\/t\/general-take-on-special-code-in-swift\/57\/2?u=mjtsai\">not been ruled out<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&rsquo;s great that Apple has opened not only Swift&rsquo;s code but also its reasoning, ongoing development work, and plans for the future.
