In addition to the questionable design choices and changes made by Apple’s engineers, however, there is also the very real and very problematic introduction of new bugs and new weaknesses.
It just seems buggy to me, especially for multi-application workflows.

If you go with the multi-application workflow issues, then you also face the issue of those auto-"terminate" applications: Preview for instance.
Resume, auto-save and auto-"terminate" is a whole. Which I personally don't like or am unable to appreciate.
Autosave IS buggy.
